Interviewee: Michael Cummings (my Dad) Me: How would you describe yourself in three words? Dad: Tired, reader, writer. Me: if you could only listen to one genre of music for the rest of your life, what genre? Dad: Classical. Me: Why? Dad: Cause you said only one genre because it's like a soundtrack I don't know how to explain it. Me: In photos do you tend to smile with or without your teeth? Dad: Without. Me: What's your favorite part of your day? Dad: The mornings. Me: Why? Dad: Because I still feel like I can get things done. Me: What advice would you give your younger self? Dad: I don't know I don't have any real regrets. Me: What do you think your younger self would want to tell you when they see your life? Dad: What happened. Me: What's the one thing you wish school had taught you? Dad: How to organize what I need to get done. Me: What's the one thing you wish they hadn't spent time teaching you? Dad: Well see I don't want to say sentence structure but I moved every time they started that lesson so that's probably not a good answer, I’ve yet to use the gym activity with the scooters, why did we spend so much time on the scooters, it's not a life lesson. Me: If you could only live in one place for the rest of your life where would it be? Dad: I honestly don't know, maybe somewhere in England in the countryside or near the coast, actually, yes, near the coast in England. Me: What's something you can appreciate that you can appreciate about yourself that is either a quality or something you have done, today or in general? Dad: Well today I hit 40,000words in NaNoWriMo, I also appreciate where I’ve gotten considering I started with a political science degree, now I run a department for a tech company. Me: What are your favorite words to sy or write? Dad: I don't know if I have one love to say or write, I have ones I hate saying and writing. I can never spell disappeared or disappointing, all those disap’s, I never know how many s’s or p’s go into them. It’s the s’s and p’s that throw me off.
Artist Statement: With this project my goal was to portray my Dad in a way that reflected parts of his personality. That being carefree, humorous, goofy, and bright. I focused on using light and shadows to help emphasize this. As well as having him look away from the camera for some of the photos to give them a carefree look.
